Sweetgreen now lettuce will fully satisfy itself.
The healthy salad chain has thrown a classic fast food staple into the mix, joining in a possible bid to capitalize on the growing “girls’ dinner” trend.
Customers at select stores can now add a side of fries to their order, allowing them to get one step closer to creating the perfect “it” meal.
The announcement comes after The Post reported on a hot female-driven dinner craze consisting of three simple items: a salad, a side of fries and a martini.
But while booze certainly won’t be on any Sweetgreen’s menu, the addition of fries is revolutionary for a franchise that has long prided itself on being a healthy, calorie-conscious alternative to fast food options.
“We want to disrupt fast food,” CEO and co-founder Jonathan Neman said according to Restaurant Business.
“We want to give you the things that you want, that you’re used to eating — things like fries,” and do it in a Sweetgreen way, in a way that we think of as an indulgence. €
Sweetgreen’s air-fried fries are cooked in avocado oil with a dollop of pickle ketchup and garlic aioli. They are listed at 240 calories.
Los Angeles restaurants are now serving up the tasty side of the market test to eager customers, many of whom learned about the new item thanks to social media buzz.
The California-based grocery chain is expected to add fries to its 235 menus across the U.S. next year.
The avocado oil fries come as a growing number of Americans are avoiding seed oils to improve their health and save the planet.
“We see a big opportunity ‘outside the bowl’ — call it — around things like sides, drinks and desserts,” Neman said, Nation’s Restaurant News reported.
As such, Sweetgreen has also announced plans to begin offering wraps and desserts and to open around 40 new restaurants in the new year.
If only they added martinis to the menu – now this is a real “girl’s dinner”.
